Searching Science Invention and Nature

As well as looking at the 5 SINergies that  we created using material from the partner sites, you can also create your own SINergies  by using the search function.

To search for resources across all the sites enter a keyword and then click on the Search button

E.g.  food

SIN supports Boolean searching so you can expand or limit you search using the operators AND, OR and NOT. These need to be in upper case.
If you use two or more words SIN will automatically assume that you are interested in records where both words exist so you do not need to use an AND. Both of these searches will retrieve the same hits.

E.g.  fish chips
        fish AND chips

If you want to view resources which include either of the words, then you will need to insert 'OR' between your search words.

E.g.  fish OR chips

You can limit searches by excluding words using NOT

E.g.  fish NOT chips

You can limit your search to a specific phrase by enclosing it in inverted commas

E.g. “fish and chips”

You can also limit your search to one of the partner sites by using the drop down menu
The search software automatically truncates words, so it  will  look for resources that include variations of your keyword.

E.g. If you enter the keyword Eat,  it will also look for the words Eating and Eaten.

You can also limit your search to the type of format your resource appears in by using the drop down menu

E.g. PDF file of HTML document.
